Massage and Registration

First and foremost Congrats to all you runners that completed races or just ran this weekend!

Today I had a much needed massage on my legs.  I have been putting it off for sometime now.  But let me tell ya that my legs feel brand new.

I can start back to running this week... Can I get a WooHoo!!!  Woo Hoo!!!! Thank you, Thank you Thank you..

I am really excited and kind of scared at the same time.  I am going to start out slow and easy and see how the foot does.  But I am stoked... I haven't decided what day to run, but I am sure I will be feeling it soon.

I am officially registered for the

I ran this race last year, I did not have a very good race, terrible to be exact and I thought about completely giving up on running all together when I crossed the finish line.  I need to run it again to mentally get past some issues..

Have you ever had to run a race again to get right Mentally?

Registration opened up today.  I feel like such a dork, because I wanted to sign up on the day it opened. I can't wait to run the strip at night, and there are other bloggers running and I can't wait to meet you all.

Have you ever registered for a race on the day it opened up?

Runner's Survey

I read this runner's survey on a few blogs I follow and thought it would be fun to do and pass on so you can share it on your blog.  I love learning more about all my running friends.  SO GO!

What is your favorite type of cross training?
Spinning!  I picked it up a few months ago due to an injury.  What a workout!  I live in a small town so there are no classes offered but my gym has a spinning bike that has a trainer on the bike.  I just plug my earphones in and turn it on.  Someday I would love to take a real class.  I love to sweat, and this really does it for me.  And I feel incredible when I am finished.
What is your favorite song to run to?
I love a good hip hop song.  Dynamite by Taio Cruz is keeping me motivated right now.

What brand of shoes do you wear? Asics.  I loved the Gel Nimbus 11.  I need a stability shoe.  Tried the Gel Nimbus 12 and did not like them so much.  I am in the Kayano and testing the Brooks Adrenaline

Do you wear a hat when you run? Always!  I love to run in a hat, it keeps the sweat out of my eyes.  I have short hair so I don’t have to fix it in the morning when I run.  I might scare some people in the morning without it.

What temperature is your favorite for running? 60-65 degrees is perfect.  Cool enough to start in a light jacket and warm enough that I can wear my skirt or shorts.

Do you have any big races coming up?
September 11:  Denver Half Marathon
November 6:  Women’s Half Marathon, Arizona
December 4:  Las Vegas Half Marathon

What is your favorite distance?
13.1... Love, Love, Love the Half Marathon - enough to require adequate training, but short enough to not consume your life.

Are you a morning, noon or evening runner? All of the above...  I am all over the place when it comes to getting a run in.  I love to run in the morning but some days it just does not work.  I love my bed more!

Do you run solo or with a buddy? I do my Long Runs with a buddy.  But usually all the rest I do Solo.

What's your favorite post run snack? Green Protein Smoothie…

What's your FAVORITE race?  I did the Disney Princess and the Disneyland Half those 2 would have to be my favorites.  They were so much fun!  I got my PR in Florida and them my daughter ran her first Half with me in California.  I was so Proud!

Kittee, Kylee(daughter), JL(running buddy)

Are you a fan of GU?  I do like GU, Vanilla or Chocolate is my favorite.
Do you wear a Garmin? If not, how do you track your runs?   Yes I run with a Garmin 405.  Her name is LoLa…  I love it!!!
What is your least favorite race?I didn't necessarily ENJOY running in 80 degree Heat and finishing in 90 degree Heat.  I was sunburned and on the verge of Heat Stroke I am pretty sure.  Miserable…

What do you drink to keep Hydrated? I drink water, but on long runs I have been using Nuun.  Not a big fan of Gatorade.
What race is your favorite medal from?   Disney World Princess Half , it’s a Princess Crown!

Who is your running idol?
All my friends in blogland!  Some days when I don't "feel" it, all I have to do is read a couple blogs and I'm Inspired and Motivated...

How long have you been a runner?
I was a Sprinter in High School,  Then moved on to running 3-4 miles a day while in the Navy.  Took a few years off to raise kids. Started running Loooong 3 years ago to find myself again.  I am hooked!

Do you run with your engagement/wedding ring on?
Yes I do!

What's your favorite workout? repeats? long runs? tempo? fartleks?
Love Speed work!  But I do enjoy the Long Run probably just as much.  What is a fartleks?

How do you Fuel before a Long Run?  I eat a bagel with peanut butter at least an hour before my run and drink Nuun.

Champagne Thursday

Cheers to you all!

In honor of Thursday being my Friday, Champagne to all my friends!

Mr. Incredible and I are heading out in the morning on a much needed alone weekend.  22 years together and we still got the HEAT!  I always wanted to say that.

Ruidoso/Mescalero, New Mexico here we come.

I will NOT be taking my work-out gear, I am pretty sure this is the first time ever I have not taken running/work-out gear on a trip... I am taking my golf clubs, does that count?

This is a first time trip to Ruidosa and we have heard how fabulous it is there.

You all have a great weekend!  And If you are by chance running or racing this weekend, I will be SO jealous.. But I will be cheering you on!  Good Luck, Good Luck, Good Luck!

The Joys of Not Running!

It has been 3 weeks and 3 days since my last run.  I have found that there is NO Joy in Not Running, well for me anyway.
I am not a very good Cross Trainer.   I would rather RUN!  I know that Cross Training is a very important part of running.  It will make me a stronger runner.  Right?
But here’s the deal.   I have a hard time holding myself accountable.  I hate to say it but I need to have a work-out buddy meet me at the gym or I will not follow through.  I know it’s sad.  You are now learning how needy I am… Don’t Judge.

Do you need to have a work-out buddy to hold you accountable at the gym or when you run?

I finally made it to the gym yesterday, yes, I did it by myself.
I rode the Spinning bike for 30 minutes, stretched for 15 and used the weight machines for my arms.  I will have guns someday!  When I came home I put in Ab Ripper X.  I use to be able to get through the whole workout.  I had to stop several times.  And my gut is sore this morning.  That’s enough Motivation for me to get back at it 3 days a week.  It’s Crazy how fast you can get out of shape.  I felt fantastic when I was finished and slept like a baby last night.
Keep your fingers crossed that I make it the gym again today, CARDIO BABY!

Motivation Monday #8

Hello Runners, I am starting my 3rd week of no running.  It has been really tough!  I know you understand.

Yesterday was gorgeous, perfect day for a run.   I was a good girl and just whined most of the day about not being able to run.

My foot is feeling so much better; I am even out of the night splint.  I am coming back stronger, wait and see...

Saying you don't have enough time is a bad reason to not run. There's always time for a run.

Kathleen Sebelius

Wrapped in our silver capes and adorned with medals and salt streaked caps as our crowns, we were princesses of pain, loving every minute of it. Isn't it the weirdest thing? Something so damn hard, so humbling, so fickle, so painful, is also the thing we seek on purpose?

There's no magic to running far or climbing Everest. Endurance is mental strength. It's all about heart.

One Word

If you could describe how running makes you feel in ONE WORD

What would that word be?

May Goals

I have enjoyed a nice week off.. But now it is time to get back into workout mode..

I went to the Doctor and had the foot x-rayed... Good News...No stress fracture...Bad News....He said I should take 2-4 weeks off running to let the plantar faciitis heal properly.  I promised Mr Incredible 4 weeks no running.  He made me put it in writing! Can you believe that...

The Doc also gave me another shot in my foot.  Holy Cow those hurt!

So I have been thinking,  I know that scares the hell heck out of me too.  I have been wanting to loose a few pounds, okay 10-15 pounds to be exact.  This is the hardest thing for me to do while I am running 3-4 days a week.  It's funny too, because when I first started running the weight just fell off with out even trying.  Now I have a tendency to put weight on during training.  What the Heck!  I will be keeping a food journal to track everything I eat.  Bonus, I hear that if you can lose even 10 pounds you will run faster.  Bring It On!

So May is going to be the month that I focus on Weight Loss and strengthening my Core with Cross Training.  For Cardio I will be on my favorite Spinning bike for 60 minutes, I will also be venturing into the pool at least once a week.  For my Core work I will be using P90X Core Synergistic and Ab Ripper X.

Here is what the workout schedule looks like right now:

3 days:  Cardio
2 days: Core
1 day : Swim

I may tweak it as I go.  But its a start.  I will be totally jealous of all you out there running.  But I look forward to reading your blogs and running vicariously through you for the next 4 weeks.. Happy Running :)

Motivation Monday #7

Motivation Monday

The most important day in any running program is rest. Rest days give your muscles time to recover so you can run again. Your muscles build in strength as you rest.
Hal Higdon

Life (and running) is not all about time but about our experiences along the way.
Jen Rhines

To keep from decaying, to be a winner, the athlete must accept pain - not only accept it, but look for it, live with it, learn not to fear it.
Dr. George Sheehan

Winning is not about headlines and hardware [medals]. It’s only about attitude. A winner is a person who goes out today and every day and attempts to be the best runner and best person he can be… Winning is about struggle and effort and optimism, and never, ever, ever giving up.
Amby Burfoot

Congratulations to everyone who ran a race this past weekend!  I hope you are wearing your Medal with Pride today, at the office or just running to the grocery store.
