Rock N Roll Vegas 2011

The Rock n Roll Vegas Half Marathon was quite and experience.  I ran it last year when we started at 6 am.  Thought running the Strip at Night would be Awesome.  Well not so much!

Mr Incredible and I arrived on Saturday ready to have a great time in Vegas.  We checked into the Monte Carlo, we stay at a different hotel everytime we come to Vegas.  Do you stay at the same place when you come to Vegas?

We then headed for the long walk to the Veneitian to check out the Expot.  All I can say is WOW!  Talk about overwhelming.  There were more people at the expot then residents in my town.  Wall to Wall people.  I picked up my race number, swag and t-shirt.  I tried to walk around and check out the vendors but it was so tough to even walk.  I ended up leaving, Mr Incredible was thankful.  He does not do very well in crowds.

We gambled some on Saturday night before heading to bed.  Lost our shorts!  But we had fun while it lasted.  Slept in a little on Sunday Morning, felt kinda werid not getting up to run.  We headed out to find me some pancakes for breakfast.  Yummy, Love me some pancakes.

I pretty much took it easy all day.  Trying to stay relaxed for the big night.  Started getting ready around 2pm and headed to Mandalay Bay at 3pm.  We tried to take a taxi but all the roads were closed for the Marathon.  We ended up walking, what a great warm up.

Dropped my bag at gear check and headed out to the corrals.  Boy it was chilly.  We had to head back in to stay warm. Most of the runners had the same idea.  Stay Warm!

We got to our corral, there were so many people.  Lots of runners were jumping corrals.  We were in corral 15 and we saw a lot of 20 - 30's in our corral. Not sure runners understood that they needed to start in the right corral.

We made it to the start and we were off running.  Well sorta.  It was slow going, so many runners.  Thats okay I like to start out slow.  Only problem, by mile 5 we were still so congested.  It was tough to weave around runners and pick up the pace.  There was not going to be a PR.

It was so hard to get to the water stops so I kept running till around mile 7.  That is when I was able to get something to drink.  Yuck!  the water tasted horrible.  I went ahead and drank it.  I really needed to hydrate.  And I was getting so cold.   I got water a couple more times and it did not taste any better.

I crossed the finish line in 2 hours 42 min.  Not my best but not my worse.  I can live with it.  As I crossed the finished I was freezing.  I got my medal, which glows in the dark, and tried to get to the food.  The finish was so crowded, I was stuck in the middle and could not get to the food.  I noticed so many runners throwing up and some even passed out.  What the heck.  I was not feeling the greatest but I just figured it was from all the crowds, cold and I really needed some food.

It was a nighmare getting back to my hotel.  Who would of thought.  I was stuck in the Mandalay Bay for quite some time.  Finally we were able to get out through the parking garage.  And catching a taxi was out of the question.  The lines were horrible.  We started to walk.

We made it back to the Monte Carlo at 11:30pm.  All I wanted was a cheeseburger, beer and a soak in the tub.  Mr Incredible went to find me some food while I started to soak.  I was feeling queasy but figured it was from the werid race conditions.

I read later that the water we were served at the water stops was from fire hydrents.  And that a lot of other runners where very sick.  There was even an article in the Las Vegas newspaper.  I feel so sorry for all the runners that got sick.  I am so glad I did not stop and drink water at every water stop.

Mr Incredible and I had a fantastic time in Vegas.  Even came home Winners!

I will not be running this race in the future.  It was really unorganized and I thought way to many runners for my taste.

HBBC Challenge week 1 Review

This was a pretty decent week for me.  I feel if I did not have this Challenge I would of caved in and not exercised as much as I did.

Total Running: 17  miles = 17 points
Total Walking : 2.5 miles =     2.5 points
Total Spinning:  45 min            4.5 points
Total Cleaning House: 4.5 hours  = 4.5 points
Total Strength Training: 20 min = 1 point

Total Points week 1 = 29

I am having a hard time getting in my fruit.  I seem to do okay on Veggies.  I did not record veggies in week 1 because I felt I did not do to well.  In week 2 I am really going to try and hold myself accountable in that area.

Good Luck Next Week

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving was a great day in our house.  So much to be Thankful for!

The day started with a quick 4 mile run outside on the open road!  Yes you heard correct, OUTSIDE... I was so happy and thankful.  I have been having to run on the treadmill lately because it has been so cold.  brrrrr

When I got back home, Mr Incredible was putting the Turkey in, he put the Ham in a few hours later. He did such a great job.  All I had to worry about was the dressing and veggies.  Thats the easy part.  The rest of the family was bringing all the other sides and desserts.

Family started showing up, Let the craziness begin! My family is pretty loud and over the top.  But you have to love em..

Is your family crazy and loud?

Time for each family member say what we are thankful for this year, Prayer and then time to dig in.  Do you have any special traditions you do on Thanksgiving?

After we ate, time for FOOTBALL!  And a possible nap.  Kids and whoever isn't watching football retreat to the back room to play board games.  I love to play games!  What is your favorite board game?  Mine is scrabble and Wha Who.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your families!

Women's Half Marathon

For those waiting on the race report for the Womens Half Marathon Arizona, sorry it has taken me a few weeks to get it together.

This was a really great race and I would highly recommend it.  You should also really consider getting a group of girlfriends to run it with you.
We hit the expot on Saturday.  I was not too impressed with it.  It was really small.  I like to be a little overwhelmed when I get to an expot, but that is just me.  My favorite part of the expot, we made the cover of Women's Running Magazine.

We made the Cover

We also stayed at the Host Hotel which was awesome.  We received an EXTRA Swag bag, t-shirt and a warm chocolate chip cookie on check-in.  They had me at Chocolate Chip Cookie!

After the expot it was time for manicures and pedicures to help us relax.  AWWW!!!  Then off to dinner at Cheesecake Factory.  Back to the hotel to set out all our running gear. 5 am comes early.

my outfit for the morning

Since we stayed at the Host Hotel we were shuttled on a bus to the start line.  And then shuttled back the finish... Another great perk!

waiting on the bus

There was a lot of energy at the starting line.  That always makes me a little nervous.  My game plan was to start out slow and pick it up in the later miles.  It was a beautiful day for a run.

 And off we go!!!

We had open roads the whole race.  I never felt like it was cluttered up with runners.  The volunteers and people cheering us on where amazing.  So many of the women running where so supportive also.  You have to love runners for that.  I kept my plan of start slow and it was working for me.  J & S wanted to run a little faster so they took off.  C stayed with me, we were pretty comfortable.  I was able to start picking up the pace a little around mile 4.  When I hit mile 6 my shoe was rubbing.  I just ignored it and kept running.  I did have to take a few walk breaks but not longer then 2 minutes.  We were just plugging right along.  Feeling Great!  Well except the dang rubbing of the shoe.  Around mile 9 I had to walk a little and C did not want to stop, she was afraid she would not start to run again.   I walked 1 min and ran 4 min.  The shoe was really bugging me.  After I hit mile 11, I was in the home streatch.  I could see C in front of me and just kept my eyes focused on her.  My legs were getting a little tired but I was feeling pretty good.  I could see the finish line and that just makes you want to run faster.  YEA!!!! I finished in a time of 2:38

C, me, J and S at the finish
I am very happy with my time.  It's not a PR.  But it has been a long road back.  We all did amazing and are so Proud of ourselves.  Running with girlfriends is the best.

Oh and that dang rubbing in my shoe... Well here is what I had when I took my shoe off...

2 blisters

I had 2 blister on the bottom of my foot.  NICE!!!

Halloween Fever

I Love Halloween.  I Love everything about it... Decorating Pumpkins, Dressing up, Handing out Candy and most important sampling the Candy.  Mr Incredible and I went to a Halloween Party on Saturday.  It was so much fun.  We did Scarey Creepy this year, totally outside our box.. We dressed as Zombies!

Zombie Date Night

But this year on Halloween Morning I woke up with a fever and feeling pretty yucky.  Mr Incredible did a great job handing out and scaring all the little trick or treaters this year.

Mr Incredible Zombie Style

Do you dress up for Halloween?

I am still a little under the weather today, UGH!  Good thing I am on taper mode.  Sunday I will be running the Womans Half Marathon in Arizona with some of my girlfriends.  Can you say Super Excited!!!!!  Fingers crossed this bug will be gone by Friday...

I hope you all had a Spooky yet Safe Halloween and are running a couple more miles to run off the candy you stole from your kiddos.

New Year's Resolution

Can you make a New Year’s Resolution in October?

MMMM, well I am going to give it a try.  I like to think outside the box.

I have been absent from the blogging community for the past 2 months.  Sad, I know.  I have been occasionally reading your blogs but have not been contributing to mine.  Big girl job, family life and injury have taken its toll the past few months.

So I am making a deal with myself to post at least 3 times a week.

I wanted to also let you all know that I have been running and cross training.  I ran the Denver Half Marathon on September 11, 2011.  It was a great time with girlfriends and a really tough trail run.  I will not go into details, but it took all I had to finish.

I will be running the Womens Half Marathon on November 6th in Arizona.  And then the Rock n Roll Half in Las Vegas Dec 4th.  I can’t wait to run the strip at night.

This weekend I ran the

This was a great idea and so fun.  I love cupcakes so I had to eat 2 when I was finished, you know one for me and one for Jess. Hehehe!  I hope runwithjess had a great birthday.

time to enjoy a cupcake

I have been feeling really great when I run.  I still have to take it easy.  I am slower then I would like, but ya know, at least I’m out there.

My Fitness Pal

I have been back in the loop of running now for the past 2 weeks. Yea Me!  I really dont want to bore you with all the details of coming back from an injury because it really seems kind of depressing and I sure dont want to go back there.  And I do want you all to stick around and not think I am a downer.  We are positive bloggers here.

I can tell you that my runs however SLOW they are, have been great.  I have been able to run 3 days a week with 3 days of cross training.  So far So good!

I am not sure if you all know, but I will be running/walking the Denver Half Marathon on September 11th with 3 of my girlfriends.  Because of the injury situation.. I have not been able to train the way I would of liked.  So I am just going to listen to my body and enjoy the run and scenery.  This run is a partial trail run and I have never ran on trails so this should be interesting.

I have also put on 8 pounds since the injury.  Which really does not help me since I still had 10 pounds to get to my ideal race weight.  How the heck does that happen.  I was on crutches for 3 weeks.  I was burning calories like you can not believe.  If you haven't been on crutches, try it out for a few days.  You will be sweating like a pig, and your arms will look awesome.  So I have been working on getting the weight off.

Have you ever heard of my fitness pal?

It is a really cool website that helps you track your food and exercise.  Sign me up baby!  The website tells you how many calories you can have in day, as long as you enter in your food and exercise you are good.  It is also available in an app for the iphone or droid.  I can tell you that I am making better food choices since I have to input it in the computer.  You can also scan barcodes, how awesome is that.  I am loving it so far.

How do you track calories in calories out?

Its good to be back bloggers...

Tough Road

Hello to all my fellow Runners!

It has been a tough road these last 12 weeks, I am sorry I have been missing from the blog world.  My big girl job has been overwhelming this summer.  This is the busiest we have ever been in a while.  Job security, I guess.  Although I was hoping to become a professional runner at some point in my life.  hahaha  On top of being injured and I really have had nothing to talk about.  Surprising I know!

So here is the low down!  I am officially out of the cast, off crutches and cleared to cross train for 2 weeks.  I am allowed to walk outside or on the mill for 15 minutes, spin for 15 minutes and hop on the elliptical for 15 minutes 3 days a week.  I can also swim, which I will take advantage of because I can do that daily.  And of course, lots and lots of stretching.

After 2 weeks I can mix it up a little and throw in some light running.  And by light, I mean short little jogs of 4 minutes for a total of a 20 minute workout.  Hey it's a start right?  I will have to monitor my foot at all times and listen to it.  I didn't really know feet could talk, but mine do every now and then.

Getting back into the swing of things is going to be tough.  I haven't really enjoyed becoming a couch potato, well maybe I have a little,  but my body is going to rebel I can already feel it.

Why is it so easy to get comfortable doing nothing?

I hope you all have been having fantastic runs/races this summer....

It may take me a while but I am looking foward to catching up on all your blogs!

Someone who is...

Busier then you is Running right now!

Did you know this was a NIKE advertisment from a few years ago? I didn't... But I sure do Love it!  Makes me want to drop everything and head out the door.

I personally do not wear NIKE shoes, they fit my feet weird, maybe its because I have Barney Rubble fat feet.  I think the NIKE+ is pretty cool, Mr. Incredible has one, but I will stick with my Garmin.  And NIKE clothes really run kind of small for my comfort level and I will not size up... Don't Judge.  Come to think of it I don't think I own anything running from NIKE... Oh wait, My favorite hat to run in is NIKE!

Although I could not be a running advertisment for NIKE, I do think they have Awesome Quotes to keep us runners motivated and inspired.

Do you run in NIKE?

Who has the Blues

I have been avoiding blogging and feeling a bit BLAH! I know I have a touch of the BLUES!  Lately, I have been feeling heavy, literally I mean FAT and unmotivated.  It has been 2 weeks since I was put in the dreaded boot for a torn tendon, and 9 weeks total since the doc said you need to take time off.  I am not enjoying the REST as much as I probably should.  I have a lot of Running on my mind.

Today I Swam for 30 minutes.  It did feel great to be in the pool, especially since we have been having a Heat Wave and even the mornings are pretty miserable.  But I just don’t get the same rush I do from Running or Spinning.  I am the girl that sweats buckets and then heads to the grocery store.  I know gross!  But I love that feeling.  Don’t get me wrong I do like to swim. Just don’t feel like I get the same workout.  I keep telling myself This is good for me, I need to work on my Cross Training.  And hey maybe a Triathalon is in my future…

I feel so out of the Loop and and disconnected.  I keep missing things.  I miss playing golf with the girls on Tuesday evenings.  I miss all the great conversations and laughter during a long run with JL.  I miss training for the 3 races I have at the end of the year. I miss my i-pod and my garmin. I miss all the food I could eat because I RUN!  I just don’t even feel like a runner anymore.

And yes I will take some cheese with my whine!

The one thing that is keeping me sane, is reading all your blogs! Even though I have not been posting, I have been reading.  You all are amazing and so inspirational.  Congrats to all the R&R Runners, and anyone that was able to just get out and run.  Bravo!!!    Next time could you strap a camera to your head or body so I can virtually run with you?  I promise to be good company... Now that would be so cool!

3 things

1.      I am  Sorry I have been MIA from the Blogging World.  My big girl job that helps pay for all the races I want to run  for the bills around the house has taken over my life. Job security I guess.  I have a lot of reading to catch up on.  But I promise I will catch up!  And leave you some witty comment.  Please forgive me…

2.    Remember when I wrote that I was able to start running again?  Well on my second run my foot started hurting again.  Headed back to the Doc.  Had an MRI on Tuesday.  Back to Doc yesterday…. Torn Tendon in foot.  L  I am now in a cast and on crutches for the next 3 weeks.  But don’t feel sorry for me, I have already cried enough for all of us.  I am going to put a smile on my face and keep a good attitude, I hear that helps the healing process.  And there is a bonus, I know who would of thought… Killer Arms!

3.    Running, walking, anything you do on 2 legs is out.  Swimming is in. I will be in the pool a lot over the next 3 weeks.  I can also keep up with my strength training and ab workouts. But, I am in need of some advice as to what to do in the pool, so I don’t get bored.  I usually just swim laps.

What workouts do you do in the Pool?

Monday Motivation #10

Top of the Morning or Afternoon to all you fantastic Runner’s.  I had a Wonderful Weekend!

I was able to get several closets cleaned out, mainly because Mr. Incredible was on a father/son trip to Vegas.  Love to clean and purge.

I ran my second run on Sunday… Woo Hoo for me!  I ran for 25 minutes for a total of 2.5 miles.  Remember I am starting out slow and easy folks.  I did the 4:1 method and it seems to be working so far.  I warmed up with a 1 mile walk and good stretching before I started running.  And, ended with a .5 cool down walk and of course more stretching.   And to liven things up I did 5 push-ups and 25 squats.

I cannot tell you how great it feels to run again.  Oh, yes I can because you so get it.  Just after a couple of runs I feel myself coming back.  Stress and tension are disappearing.  And I am not ashamed to say that I am Happier when I run!

Motivation Monday

When I finish a run, every part of me is smiling.
Jeff Galloway

I like running because it's a challenge.  If you run hard, there's the pain - and you've got to work your way through the pain.  You know, lately it seems all you hear is? Don't overdo it' and? Don't push yourself.' Well, I think that's a lot of bull.  If you push the human body, it will respond."

Three Things

1.       I ran 20 minutes yesterday for the first time in 6 weeks.  It felt FANTASTIC.   And my foot seemed to hold up pretty good.  I walked for 1 mile then stretched and then headed out running.  I am taking it really easy and slow so I opted to run 4 minutes and walk 1 minute.  I am so glad that the run felt great, I knew it would.  Man how I have missed running.  And it is good to be back.  I have a long way to go but I am up for the Challenge.

2.     Mr. Incredible left today to meet our Firstborn, who turned 21, in Las Vegas.  What a great father/son trip.  He will be home Sunday.  HMMM what is a girl to do!  Well I think a GNO is definitely in order.   I also plan on finishing the book I started reading, Born to Run, while he is gone.

Have you read Born to Run?

3.     I have entered a 90 day Weight Loss Challenge.  If you have been reading my blog you know I have huge issues with accountability.  I entered the Challenge to hold myself accountable.  Mr. Incredible entered the Challenge also, so I think we are on the right track. I have tried every diet out there from WW, Adkins, and South Beach to popping pills to control my appetite.  This Challenge I read about from a fellow blogger, GISrunner.  She has had great success, and I am up for the Challenge to drop these 20 pounds that won’t seem to budge.  I will keep you all posted.

What helps you stick to a diet program?

National Running Day!

Today is the day that we all must run, like it or not!

Why you Ask??  Well Duh it's

National Running Day!

I will be hitting the pavement today after a 6 week break due to injury.  I have mixed emotions but know that I will be feeling awesome when I am done.

I am starting from scratch,  I had really good intentions of cross training through this injury but it did not happen.  What can I say  I love to RUN!   And a little bit of feeling sorry for myself.  I have 3 half marathons planned, starting in September and ending in December. Training has officially started.  Slow and Steady!

I am going to leave you with a little bit of Why I Run:

I RUN...for the love of it, for sanity, for ice cream, to keep up with my kids, to be fast, for my health, to eat, to hurt, to find myself, to be happy, to be fit, to look darn good in my jeans, for wine, to stay young, because I can, for chocolate, to be outdoors, to sweat, for inspiration, so my butt does not grow, to rant, to get places, to feel the wind on my face, to feel skinny, to be a role model, to appreciate life...FOR MYSELF!

Massage and Registration

First and foremost Congrats to all you runners that completed races or just ran this weekend!

Today I had a much needed massage on my legs.  I have been putting it off for sometime now.  But let me tell ya that my legs feel brand new.

I can start back to running this week... Can I get a WooHoo!!!  Woo Hoo!!!! Thank you, Thank you Thank you..

I am really excited and kind of scared at the same time.  I am going to start out slow and easy and see how the foot does.  But I am stoked... I haven't decided what day to run, but I am sure I will be feeling it soon.

I am officially registered for the

I ran this race last year, I did not have a very good race, terrible to be exact and I thought about completely giving up on running all together when I crossed the finish line.  I need to run it again to mentally get past some issues..

Have you ever had to run a race again to get right Mentally?

Registration opened up today.  I feel like such a dork, because I wanted to sign up on the day it opened. I can't wait to run the strip at night, and there are other bloggers running and I can't wait to meet you all.

Runner's Survey

I read this runner's survey on a few blogs I follow and thought it would be fun to do and pass on so you can share it on your blog.  I love learning more about all my running friends.  SO GO!

What is your favorite type of cross training?
Spinning!  I picked it up a few months ago due to an injury.  What a workout!  I live in a small town so there are no classes offered but my gym has a spinning bike that has a trainer on the bike.  I just plug my earphones in and turn it on.  Someday I would love to take a real class.  I love to sweat, and this really does it for me.  And I feel incredible when I am finished.
What is your favorite song to run to?
I love a good hip hop song.  Dynamite by Taio Cruz is keeping me motivated right now.

What brand of shoes do you wear? Asics.  I loved the Gel Nimbus 11.  I need a stability shoe.  Tried the Gel Nimbus 12 and did not like them so much.  I am in the Kayano and testing the Brooks Adrenaline

Do you wear a hat when you run? Always!  I love to run in a hat, it keeps the sweat out of my eyes.  I have short hair so I don’t have to fix it in the morning when I run.  I might scare some people in the morning without it.

What temperature is your favorite for running? 60-65 degrees is perfect.  Cool enough to start in a light jacket and warm enough that I can wear my skirt or shorts.

Do you have any big races coming up?
September 11:  Denver Half Marathon
November 6:  Women’s Half Marathon, Arizona
December 4:  Las Vegas Half Marathon

What is your favorite distance?
13.1... Love, Love, Love the Half Marathon - enough to require adequate training, but short enough to not consume your life.

Are you a morning, noon or evening runner? All of the above...  I am all over the place when it comes to getting a run in.  I love to run in the morning but some days it just does not work.  I love my bed more!

Do you run solo or with a buddy? I do my Long Runs with a buddy.  But usually all the rest I do Solo.

What's your favorite post run snack? Green Protein Smoothie…

What's your FAVORITE race?  I did the Disney Princess and the Disneyland Half those 2 would have to be my favorites.  They were so much fun!  I got my PR in Florida and them my daughter ran her first Half with me in California.  I was so Proud!

Kittee, Kylee(daughter), JL(running buddy)

Are you a fan of GU?  I do like GU, Vanilla or Chocolate is my favorite.
Do you wear a Garmin? If not, how do you track your runs?   Yes I run with a Garmin 405.  Her name is LoLa…  I love it!!!
What is your least favorite race?I didn't necessarily ENJOY running in 80 degree Heat and finishing in 90 degree Heat.  I was sunburned and on the verge of Heat Stroke I am pretty sure.  Miserable…

What do you drink to keep Hydrated? I drink water, but on long runs I have been using Nuun.  Not a big fan of Gatorade.

Who is your running idol?
All my friends in blogland!  Some days when I don't "feel" it, all I have to do is read a couple blogs and I'm Inspired and Motivated...

How long have you been a runner?
I was a Sprinter in High School,  Then moved on to running 3-4 miles a day while in the Navy.  Took a few years off to raise kids. Started running Loooong 3 years ago to find myself again.  I am hooked!

Do you run with your engagement/wedding ring on?
Yes I do!

What's your favorite workout? repeats? long runs? tempo? fartleks?
Love Speed work!  But I do enjoy the Long Run probably just as much.  What is a fartleks?

How do you Fuel before a Long Run?  I eat a bagel with peanut butter at least an hour before my run and drink Nuun.
